CRAFT SUPPLY LIST -  PLEASE GATHER BEFORE THE WORKSHOP

PDF Snail Pattern: The Snail PDF pattern will be emailed once all students have registered. It will have to be printed or traced from the screen BEFORE the workshop.

Felt/Fabric: We highly recommend felt for this project -if you want to use alternative fabric I highly recommend you treat it with anti-fray solutions as a crucial tip prior to the workshop. Again we highly recommend using felt especially for beginners for its non fraying nature. The snail we are constructing/sewing is approximately 4"-5" long.

Thread: We highly recommend that you match the thread to your main felt/ fabric swatch. If you are a seasoned maker - a contrasting thread may also add character and delight - the choice is yours.

Polyfill/ Stuffing: If you want to save money and be environmentally friendly consider up cycling the contents of an old pillow or stuffed toy.

Tools: Scissors, Wire Cutter, Small Bamboo Stick (stuffing), Sewing tool, Fabric Pins, CLEAR DRYING glue (i.e. Aleene's - Dollar Tree), toothpick with sharp ends.

Tip: Sewing tool - make sure the eye is thin enough to accept the glass beads or sew on embellishments you plan on using to decorate with.

Wire: Cut a 4.5" piece of craft wire - we recommend black wire in a 22-24AWG so it may easily pass through the fabric and stuffing without bending/ kinking.

Embellishments: Glass beads or other suitable objects that can be sewn or glued to decorate your slug.

OPTIONAL MATERIALS:

Tentacles/Eyes: If you have roving wool and felting tools at home - please feel free to gather this for the workshop.  You can also cover the wire using other suitable materials of your choosing.

Eyes: Consider using plastic craft eyes - or if you have roving wool you can l them needle felt a set. You can get creative and use any other suitable materials of your choosing.

  • Lowering Landfill Waste!

Peace and kindness matters but so does lowering our carbon footprint.

"The University of Waterloo said that Canadians toss away close to 500 million kg of fabric items every year.

  • RRR

    REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE.

Many of our designs include material and finds from thrift stores, second hand grabs or items that we forage in our community to make you ART.

  • Second chances at love...

Up cycling challenges us as artists, it is helping keep textile out of landfills and encourages us to mend old clothes into new artistic trends. Foraging for the next AMAZING thing to work with is also pretty AWESOME!
